Sir William Bourchier

Sir William Bourchier, 1st Count of Eu was an English knight created by King Henry V. He fought at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. In 1417 he was in the retinue of King Henry V during his second expedition to France, and played a significant role in the capture of Normandy.


  1. I would love to know the provenance of the image of William Bourchier (1374-1420). Do you know who painted it? Where it is today? How do we know that it was William? Thanks for any info on this.

      Great questions! I should have done my homework before posting the image. It is one I found attached to several family trees in … Looking into it more carefully, I’m not able to find another source for the image. I did notice, however, that it’s suspiciously similar to a portrait labeled as Henry VI, also of dubious provenance. Without more information, we can’t be sure whether it’s a likeness of either of them!
